From Cape Clear Island to Kendal at Longwood

Imagine moving from a small Irish island

Where we hunkered down on a sixty acre farm beside the sea

To a retirement community

In Pennsylvania just that wee bit west of Philly.

Instead of wind and waves, woods

Of towering oaks, maples, cedars, flowering cherries;

Instead of a ferry to get us to the mainland,

A bus straight to the city and its offerings;

Instead of neighbours down the drive

And way up or down that steep hill ceilidh hill,

Our cottage is attached to a settlement of similar dwellings,

And luckily, we’re at the end, and, you know,

Despite the change, wow, we’re home again!
